My Journey to Tutoring

Teaching Experience

I have had the fortune of spending the past 2 academic years at an independent school in south London.  Whilst there I specialised in physics as well as teaching KS3 science, and I found my greatest strength was in supporting students 1-on-1 with their specific needs, giving them exactly what they needed to make sense of a topic they found tricky.  I taught exam classes and also went out of my way to work with exam support & intervention groups of all ability levels.  Even when I wasn't assigned to teach Year 13, I still helped them weekly with the challenging AQA Physics Paper 3, giving them the skills they needed to tackle unfamiliar problems.  I am excited to be putting this strength to the best possible use through tutoring!

My Qualifications

I have qualified teacher status, as well as a BSc in Theoretical Physics from Imperial College.  I also attained an A* in both maths & physics at GCSE and A-Level, so I can speak from experience on how to excel at these exams!

2023-25

Teacher of Physics - ECT

My aforementioned role of the past 2 years included teaching physics across the key stages, as well as an extracurricular Space Technology course, which saw me mentoring a small group of year 12 students on advanced coding activities and problem solving in the arena of aerospace.  The course includes a first-of-its-kind quantum computing & mechanics module that I helped develop, and helping students to steadily get to grips with very complex and unintuitive ideas has been very rewarding for me.  I decided that working with small groups and 1-on-1 was for me!

2022-23

Teacher Training

During my teacher training year I was based primarily at an all girls’ comprehensive school, where I quickly established good relationships with students across all 3 key stages.  It was a forward-thinking science department with a laser focus on meeting the needs of every student.  I attended a contrasting placement at an extremely high achieving mixed Catholic school with a strong identity that puts students first and gives teachers lots of autonomy.  Lessons are short and must be very densely packed with content and tasks, and this, combined with the high achievement expectations, gave me experience working under those kinds of pressures to help kids achieve the lofty grades they were aiming for.  I got to know my classes extremely well over my short stay and quickly got to grips with the kind of support that each student needed.

Summer 2022

GCSE Summer Camp

In the summer before my teacher training year, I took several sessions at a GCSE summer school at an independent college in Bournemouth, helping a group of 5 students across maths and all 3 sciences.  I got to know them very well throughout the week and all of them made measurable progress.

Education

2018-2022

Imperial College London | Physics with Theoretical Physics

While studying at Imperial College I developed an exceedingly deep appreciation for the cohesive system that is physics and mathematics.  I came to understand the connection between the language of mathematics and the workings of real world problems and I aspire to help everyone see these subjects in that way.  I also had to teach myself the Further Maths curriculum which I hadn't studied in school!

2011-2018

Sutton Grammar School | GCSEs and A-Levels

It wasn't long ago that I ran the GCSE and A-Level gauntlet myself!  Whilst physics and maths came naturally to me, I remember well the feeling of juggling a variety of subjects that needed a lot of work and trying to get them all over the line.  I also remember working hard to secure the two A*s at A-Level whilst most of my time was taken up by my history and computer science coursework.  I aim to make your journey a little easier!
